========= Adventure ========= (original 350 point version) Solution by David Tanguay (dat@thinkage.on.ca) ------- General ------- You can explore the caves yourself -- this is just to help you over the puzzles. Once underground, you will be attacked by dwarves. There is a random chance they will kill you. Your only defense is to get the axe that the first throws at you and to throw it back (and retrieve it) at any dwarf you see, until it is dead. This means saving is a good idea. A pirate will steal treasures from you. Don't panic: you can't win unless he does. He might steal something you need, though, so this is another reason to save often. --------- Specifics --------- The Grate Unlock it with the keys. The Bird You must have the wicker cage. You must not have the rod. You can then simply get the bird. The Fissure Wave the rod and a bridge appears. The Snake Release the bird: it drives the snake away. The Dragon Kill it. With your bare hands? Yes. The Vase Don't drop it unless you've first dropped the pillow at that location. The Plant Water it, twice, and it becomes a large beanstalk. The Eggs When you say "fee fie foe foo" (as four separate commands) the eggs magically return to the giant room. The Iron Door Oil it. Use the water bottle to carry the oil. The Troll (first crossing) You must give him a treasure. Give him the eggs, and you can get them back later with "fee fie foe foo". The Bear Give him the food and he becomes your friend. Use the keys to unlock him. "Get bear" and he will follow you around. The Troll (returning) If the bear is following you around, he will chase the troll away. The Clam Open the clam with the trident. The pearl rolls downhill. Beyond the Narrow Crack To explore beyond the crack, go to Y2 and say "plover". It also gets you back to Y2. Getting Out of Witt's End Go any direction but west: you'll eventually get out. Replenishing the Lamp You can complete the cave system before your lamp runs out, but you're not likely to the first time. You can get new batteries from a vending machine in the "each different" maze using the old coins. Get to the machine via south/west/south (from the first maze room). Return via north/south-west/ west/down. Retrieving Stolen Treasures The pirate keeps your stolen treasures in a chest in the "all alike" maze. From the first room in the maze, go east/south/south/down/east/north/east/ east/north-west. You can get out of the maze via south-east/north/down to the bird chamber, or south-east/north/west/west/east/up/east/east/west/up to the west end of the hall. End Game Take the rod with no star from the south-west end and drop it in the north-east end. Return to the south-west end and say "blast". Still One Point Short? You have to deliver the magazine to Witt's End.
