Best Long-Form Work in English / Meilleur livre en anglais
For best work of Science Fiction or Fantasy in a novel or fiction collection by a Canadian writer, published in 2001.


Note 1: Entries with a "*" have not been double checked. There may be mistakes in the information listed for the entry and (possibly) it might not be eligible.
Note 2: Gullible's Travels is an omnibus collection of 2 novels. If both novels had been eligible for the Aurora before 2001 this omnibus would not have been eligible. However, since one of the novels first appears in 2001, this omnibus contains material first appearing in 2001 and is therefore eligible.
Note 3: Variation of copyright date and actual release.
General rule: we'll tend to side with the latest date.
Some (usually small) publishers are too optimistic/disorganized and end up with books being distributed much later than intended. So you have books with a 2000 copyright being released in 2001. The Aurora administrators have to deal with this on a case by case basis, but will usually use the actual release. In this example the book would probably be treated (for eligibility purposes) as a 2001 book, rather than 2000.
Some publishers are too cautious about copyright dates and end up with books appearing too early. For example a book being launched mid-fall 2001 with a 2002 copyright. The Aurora administrators have to deal with this on a case by case basis, but will usually use the copyright date. In this example the book would probably be treated (for eligibility purposes) as a 2002 book, rather than 2001.

Best Short-Form Work in English / Meilleure nouvelle en anglais
For a Science Fiction or Fantasy novella, novelette, short story or poem by a Canadian writer, in English, released in Canada in 2001.

Note 1: Entries with a "*" have not been double checked. There may be mistakes in the information listed for the entry and (possibly) it might not be eligible.
Note 2: On Spec Vol 3, No 4, Winter 2000 is considered to be a 2001 issue. Contents are eligible this year.
Note 3: On Spec Vol 3, No 4, Winter 2001 is considered to be a 2002 issue. Contents are eligible next year.
Note 4: Storyteller is considered to be a Canadian semi-pro publication for the purpose of the Aurora Awards. Stories in semi-pro magazines are not considered eligible this year. The stories may be eligible when they are published next (first pro publication, available in Canada).
Note 5: Starting with issue 3, Challenging Destiny is considered to be a pro magazine.
Note 6: The anthology Someday... 202 short stories of My Vision of the Future published by STAPLES Business Depot (Dec/2001) is considered to be a Canadian semi-pro publication for the purpose of the Aurora Awards. Stories in semi-pro publication are not considered eligible this year. The stories may be eligible when they are published next (first pro publication, available in Canada).
Note 8: Wild Things Live There: The Best of Northern Frights is a reprint anthology. None of the stories are eligible this year (because of past eligibility).
Note 9: The 2001 World Fantasy Convention CD-ROM is considered to be a semi-pro publication for the purpose of the Aurora Awards. Stories and poems in a semi-pro publication are not considered eligible this year. The stories and poems may become eligible when they are published next (first pro publication, available in Canada).

Note 2: Un jour... 202 nouvelles de Comment je vois l'avenir, une anthologie publiée par BUREAU EN GROS (déc/2001), est considérée comme étant une publication semi-professionnelle. Les nouvelles qui y sont publiées ne sont pas éligibles au Prix Aurora cette année, mais le seront dans l'éventualité d'une réédition professionnelle.
