About Glass Painting
Pat's process is lengthy and involves first cutting the glass to the desired size and shape then fusing the pieces of glass together in a kiln. (Fusing takes place at about 1600 degrees). She then anneals and wait for the piece to cool , usually 8 hours. The next step is to paint on the glass with special glass paints. Usually she uses high fire enamels . These
paints are fired on at 1400 degrees and the enamel , which is finely ground glass, becomes part of the glass when it melts, making the painting a permanent part of the glass. Occasionally, when vibrant colors are needed she will use low fire thermal hardening paints which are fired at 350 degrees. These paints are permanently set onto the surface of the glass. Each one is an ORIGINAL tiny painting on fused glass. After painting and firing they are allowed to cool again for a few hours . At this point she decides which bail to use on the pendant , either drilling a hole through the glass , or useing special uv glass glue to secure a bail in place. She is often asked how long it takes to make one piece. " I’d say about 3 to 4 days if all goes well (1 day cut and fuse, 1 day to paint and dry, 1 day to fuse again and attach a bail) but I usually work in batches of 4 or 5".
Each on of Her Original Painted Pendants is a mini work of art that can be worn as a pendant or mounted in a shadow box and displayed a a piece of art. I also make limited and Artist Edition pendants..see the links
